Check car restraints by exact model and installation

Match the restraint to your dog, vehicle and the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Independent test information applies to a specified product and conditions, not every item from a brand. This is research-based guidance, without our own crash tests.

Check the independent record

The Center for Pet Safety publishes its certified-product directory. On October 13, 2026, the directory lists the Gunner G1 Kennel in Intermediate, Medium and Small sizes. That entry does not justify assuming that every size or accessory has the same status. Read the exact current certification record and any limits before comparing products.

Check installation separately

Gunner’s product page links owner manuals for its sizes and describes securing the kennel with its tie-down system. Use the manual for the exact model, check vehicle anchorage and confirm the layout is compatible. Do not improvise mounting or substitute an accessory based on appearance alone. Ask the manufacturer when the instructions do not resolve your vehicle setup.

Compare fit and scope of evidence

Record dog measurements, usable space, positioning and the system’s limits. Illustrative record: a dog’s chest is 72 cm, but that number alone cannot select a car harness or establish crate fit. Use the specified sizing method and installation checks. A walking harness label is not evidence of vehicle-restraint performance.

Avoid unsupported add-ons

CPS warns against extension tethers and zipline devices because they can undermine restraint performance. Follow the tested installation and current advisory rather than adding length for convenience. No restraint promises freedom from injury in every collision. Review the setup as the dog, product or vehicle changes.
