Call ahead and organize the records
Ask the clinic how to arrange the visit, what documents to bring and whether they want a sample. Gather the breeder or rescue records without guessing missing dates. Include the puppy’s identification details and any current product or medication information exactly as supplied.
Describe the ordinary day
Prepare notes on food, toileting, sleep and interactions. Add a short description of any concern and when it started. A factual observation such as “left part of breakfast on two mornings” is more useful than assigning your own diagnosis. Contact the clinic promptly for concerns rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
Ask for an individual prevention plan
Discuss vaccination history, local exposure risks, parasite prevention and safe socialization. Ask how the plan should change as the puppy grows. Do not copy another household’s schedule or add products because they appear in an online checklist; the clinic needs the actual records and circumstances.
Discuss feeding and practical handling
Bring the exact food name, amount offered and any feeding concerns. Ask how to monitor growth and what changes need follow-up. Tell the team how your puppy responds to handling, and ask what you can practice comfortably at home before the next appointment.
Leave with a clear next step
Confirm what was done, what is still needed and how to contact the clinic with questions. Ask for written instructions if a treatment is prescribed. In an illustrative visit planner, one column records the question and another records the clinic’s answer and follow-up date; blank spaces remain questions, not permission to improvise.
