Separate the travel decisions
A local car journey, an interstate trip, an international crossing and a flight require different checks. For a US interstate example, APHIS directs owners to the destination state or territory’s requirements; APHIS does not regulate owner interstate pet movement. For international travel, use the relevant official destination guidance and veterinary certification process.
Check transport and accommodation separately
Confirm the carrier’s current acceptance, crate, size and booking requirements directly. Admission by an airline does not establish admission at a border. Confirm your accommodation accepts your dog and ask about any restrictions. Record the source, date checked and questions still unresolved.
Prepare records and everyday supplies
Carry identification and current contact information, required documents, food, water and suitable care supplies. Keep prescribed-care instructions with the records. Plan safe car restraint, rest opportunities and access to veterinary help. Ask your veterinarian about fitness to travel and any individual care needs.
Use the checklist before departure
Recheck changing requirements with the official authority and provider rather than relying on an old screenshot or a social post. Do not assume one certificate or a document called a passport works on every route. The example below compares trip types without giving a universal document list or airline approval.

Common questions
Is this checklist proof that my dog can enter a country?
No. The relevant authority determines entry requirements; verify your actual route.
Does airline acceptance replace border checks?
No. Confirm both the transport conditions and official entry requirements.
